The Australasian Legal Practice Management Association has launched the latest iteration of an important survey – and it is seeking the help of legal sector practitioners.

Called the 2017 ALPMA Australian Legal Industry Salary & HR Issues Survey, the research will provide an important snapshot of trends in the legal world and build on earlier such studies. ALPMA is seeking participation from all law firms, plus members of the Law Council of Australia and the Australian Law Management Group. The survey has to be completed online by 5pm on Friday, March 31, this year. All members who complete the survey will receive a complimentary copy of the research report, which includes:

  • salary data for fee earners by area of practice
  • information on employments benefits and bonuses, including bonus types and bonuses paid by role
  • the staffing mix of part-time, contract, casual and full-time workers employed at law firms
  • key staffing ratios to measure firm productivity and performance
  • anticipated salary increases and law firm recruitment intentions for the next 12 months
  • the key HR issues and challenges facing law firms in 2016
  • diversity and inclusion perceptions, programs and plans.

The survey is being conducted with the backing of State Partners, KBE Recruitment, In2View Recruitment, IPA and Kaleidoscope Recruiting.  Participation is free and now open for all Australian law firms. Last year, 252 firms from across Australia, employing 10,153 people, completed the survey. The salary data firms provide is completely confidential.

The report usually costs $550 for non-participating ALPMA members or $2200 for non-members. It will be available from Monday, May 8.
